Dave Hilton provides a round-up of activities and events at the Adur Stamp Club over the past few months

In 2016 it was decided to amalgamate Shoreham by Sea Stamp Club with Southwick Philatelic Society, forming the Adur Stamp Club, writes Dave Hilton.

This seems to have been successful and we go from strength to strength. 2019 has been an interesting year with displays from visiting speakers and our own members. As usual the year began with members showing their recent acquisitions. The chairman showed his varied collection of ‘This and That and Things Gone By’.

There was a visit from Mid Sussex Philatelic Society, when John Bushell showed Chile ‘Odds and Ends’, Malcolm Price showed Japanese BEF Mail and David Sumpter showed Gibraltar. As always, with a visiting club, a great variety of interesting collections.

Then our own Colin Lewis showed us Brighton Part 2, following from last season’s part 1, more lovely interesting material. The AGM and a ‘One Sheet’ competition took place in May, the competition ended with a three way draw. The Chairman and Secretary were re-elected, a new Vice Chairman and a new committee member joined the team. We have had new members join us to swell the ranks.

In June we were treated to ‘The History of Swedish Stamps’ by Dillon Larg, showing a wide range of some of the varied issues of that country. At our most recent meeting we enjoyed a visit from Heathfield Philatelic Society, when we were treated to Chris Maugham showing Croydon Airport, Mrs Dee Pullen showing Australia Mail ‘Disrupted in Transit’, Jeremy Stone showing Persia and Bob Ely with his ‘Bits of Canada’. It was a splendid evening, once again showing the benefits from having club visits. We will be returning the compliment next year.

We look forward to displays by some very well known speakers, towards the end of  the year there will be the usual annual letters from members, this year it is J, K, and L. We will  have a Christmas Lunch at a local restaurant and the final meeting of the year will be our popular annual auction.

Adur Stamp Club meets on the third Monday of each month at Southwick Community Centre and welcomes anyone who is interested.
