Australia Post's Age of Dinosaurs stamp issue pays tribute to five dinosaurs and an amphibian which lived in Australia during the Cretaceous period. Four of the dinosaurs in the set have never been featured on stamps before - and the fifth dinosaur (Timimus) was previously featured on an Australian stamp in 1993 as a member of a different animal group to that in which it is now classified.

The six prehistoric creatures featured on the six Age of Dinosaurs stamps lived between 145 million to 65 million years ago during an important time in the continent's natural history - the age in which flowering plants first appeared.

The animals chosen were from Queensland and Victoria because it is in those two states that the vast majority of dinosaur material has been found on this continent. The stamps were developed with the help of dinosaur expert James Gurney and paleontologists from the Museum of Victoria.

The associated products include a minisheet, a glow in the dark medallion cover and a dinosaur 'roar' sound chip.
