Norway Post centenary of Directorate for Cultural Heritage
The 15.00 NOK stamp features the ruins of Hamar Cathedral, a medieval building in the Diocese of Hamar. The cathedral's first bishop was Bishop Arnaldur, who began to build the cathedral in 1150. After the Reformation in Norway, the cathedral was used as a fortress before falling into ruins in the sixteenth century.
The ruins are now part of the Hadmar Museum, where the distinctive Gothic arches are incorporated into a modern glass museum building (pictured on the stamp).
