Latvia Post has issued two stamps for the Europa 2014 theme 'musical instruments'.
The stamps feature two of the country's traditional musical instruments - a kokle (0.78 Euros) - a stringed instrument which dates back to at least the medieval age; and a dudas (1.71 Euros), an instrument which resembles the Scottish bagpipes and is used at family celebrations including parties and weddings.
The stamps were designed by artist Lilija Dinere, who depicted the two instruments against backgrounds of sheet music.
The Europa 2014 theme
The Europa stamps are special stamps issued by the postal authorities of European countries to a different theme each year. Each Europa stamps bears the special Europa logo and each year, two competitions are held where stamp buyers and a philatelic jury choose their favourite stamp for the theme of that year.
