Canada Post's new Madonna and Child stamp marks the 350th anniversary of the church of Notre Dame de Quebec.

The stamp, designed by Louise Methe, features an oil on canvas painting by Flemish artist Janssens van Nuyssen (1567/76-1632) which depicts the Madonna holding a golden haired infant Jesus.

The parish of Notre Dame de Quebec was founded on 15 September 1664, just 56 years after the habitation of Quebec was founded by Samuel de Champlain. It was the first cathedral built in North America and the first Roman Catholic parish north of the Spanish colonies.
