Malta Post is to issue two stamps which will comprise its entry for the 2015 Europa theme Old Toys.

The stamps, designed by Joe Mark Micallef, show traditional toys used by Maltese children over the decades. The first, a 0.59 Euro value, willl be Malta's entry to the Europa 2015 best stamp competition. The design features a karretta, a wooden go-cart on metal wheels which children would create from leftover materials and then push through the streets, free-wheeling down hills and along streets. The stamp shows two boys; one riding the karretta and the other pushing, in a Maltese countryside scene.

The second stamp, a 2.19 Euro value shows a young girl pushing a hoop with a stick along a traditional Maltese street, characterised by its decorated balconies. Again, such an item would have been made from recycled waste material and would have been popular for generations as a traditional game.

Malta's Europa entry will join stamps from across Europe for a public vote for the best Europa stamp of 2015, held to encourage cooperation between Europe's postal agencies.

The stamps are due to be issued on 9 May 2015.
