The Isle of Man Post Office is to mark the fiftieth anniversary of Manx Radio with a set of eight stamps.

Manx Radio began broadcasting on 29 June 1964, after a wait of several years for a radio licence from the General Post Office. Nevertheless, Manx Radio started transmissions several years ahead of UK commerial stations, due to differences between UK and Manx law. Initially, the station broadcast from a caravan in Onchan, before moving to its current modern premises at Broadcasting House on Douglas Head.

The station broadcasts in both Manx and English, with broadcasts in other European languages during the Isle of Man TT motorbike races each summer.

The eight stamps celebrate the different radio presenters and radio programmes which have featured on the station during the last fifty years. Also available are a first day cover and presentation pack.

To order the stamps, visit the Isle of Man Post Office website.

For all the latest stamp and coin news and new issues, see each issue of Stamp & Coin Mart magazine.
