Royal Mail recently issued new Machin definitive and ‘Country’ stamps, in anticipation of the annual stamp price rises which took effect on 27 March.

The new Machin stamps are in values of £1.17 (sunset red), £1.40 (dark green pine), £1.57 (tarragon green), £2.27 (harvest gold), £2.55 (garnet red). The definitives are self-adhesive and printed by De La Rue. The stamps are available in a presentation pack which includes a detailed history of the Machin design.

Two new values of ‘Country’ stamps have also been issued for each home nation, at £1.17 and £1.40. The stamps are on ordinary gummed paper and have been printed by International Security Printers.

A statement on the Royal Mail website reads: ‘Royal Mail carefully consider the impact on their customers before deciding to increase the cost of sending mail. Royal Mail believe these changes are necessary to help ensure the sustainability of the Universal Postal Service.’
