This year's Christchurch Stamp & Postcard exhibition is to be celebrated by New Zealand Post by the release of a souvenir miniature sheet and first day cover.
New Zealand Post is the sponsor of the Christchurch event, which will be held on 18-20 November 2016, and is due to attract dealers and collectors from around New Zealand. This year's theme is the centenary of the founding of the Canterbury Aviation Company; an event which is reflected in the design of the souvenir products.
The miniature sheet shows a photograph of the first successful flight between Australia and New Zealand, when a Fokker Trimotor VH-USU landed at Wigram Aerodrome on 11 September 1928. The stamp on the sheet features a replica of a stamp issued in 1958 to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the flight. Meanwhile, the first day cover features a photo of the Avon River.
