Norwegian artist Edvard Munch, who created the famous The Scream painting, is remembered by five new stamps featuring his work. Munch (1863-1944) was born 150 years ago this year in Loten, Norway. He is famous for his evocative treatments of psycological themes, as demonstrated in The Scream (1893) which was recently sold in New York for more than $119 million.

Most of Munch's paintings were bequeathed to the Munch Museum at Toyen. Five of his most famous works are presented on the 150th anniversary stamps from Norway Post:

  •  Kr 13.00: Detail from Self-portrait in front of the Wall (1926)
  • Kr 15.00: Detail from The Sick Child (1896)
  • Kr 17.00: Detail from Madonna (1895)
  • Kr 20.00: Detail from The Scream (1893)
  • Kr 20.00 (miniature sheet): The Sun (1911)
