The Post Office of Gibraltar has issued a special stamp to mark the 350th anniversary of the Royal Marines.

Designed by Stephen Perera, the £2 stamp features the 'Great Globe' badge of the Royal Marines, presented against a background of army-style camouflage.

The Royal Marines was formed by King Charles II on 28 October 1664, as a unit for sea service. Within fifty years, the Royal Marines has connections with Gibraltar, when the Marines captured Gibraltar in 1704, holding the Rock of Gibraltar in an agreement which still exists today.

The Royal Marines now provide around half of the UK's Special Forces and have been involved in every major war and operation of the last three centuries, including operations in Afghanistan.
