Team GB win first gold medal at London 2012 and Royal Mail spring into action to issue their first gold medal stamp ...

Rowers Helen Glover and Heather Stanning are to be the first athletes to appear on a Royal Mail gold medal stamp, after their win in the women's pair final at Eton Dorney in the London 2012 Olympics.

Staff at Royal Mail have been watching the Olympic Games closely, after vowing to mark every Team GB gold medal win with a special stamp, to be issued just hours after the victory and featuring an image from the event itself.

For a moment it seemed as if Team GB would struggle to register any gold medals at all, after early disappointments, but now the staff will be busy getting the stamp design prepared, with 518 post offices ready to sell the 1st class value showing the two rowers to the general public.

Meanwhile, locals in the Lossiemouth and Truro areas should watch out for gold post boxes, after Royal Mail promised to paint a post box gold in the home town of every Team GB gold medal winner!
