Budding stamp designers from Guernsey and Alderney are getting to see their Christmas-themed artwork on the islands’ mail, as fourteen stamps have been revealed; seven self-adhesive values from Guernsey all in the shape of Christmas baubles, and seven from Alderney in the more traditional rectangular shape.
According to a Guernsey Post spokesperson, the competition ‘helped to introduce the children involved to concepts of design, composition, use of media and techniques, as well as collaboration and working to a deadline’.

Children’s paintings have long been used on seasonal stamps, including on last year’s festive issues from Royal Mail.
As you would expect the stamps all have similar themes, with Santa and snowmen making an appearance on many values, along with the Christmas robin and Santa’s elves. Each value includes the name of the artist along with their age.
