Queensland Premier Anna Bligh has announced the release of Australia’s first set of charity stamps to raise funds for those affected by the Queensland floods.

The stamps feature five images from the Queensland floods and subsequent rescue work, and have been made available at Australia Post outlets nationwide to help raise money for the flood appeal. The sixty-cent stamps are sold in sheets of ten, which will retail for $8, with $2 from the sale of each sheet donated to the Queensland Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal. Australia Post is also developing plans for a scheme in which postal managers in flood-affected areas will work with local community representatives to provide grants for reinstating community facilities that were damaged during the floods.
