Guernsey Post has released details of the six stamps it will issue this month as its contribution to the Europa 2019 theme National Birds.
Guernsey Post has released details of the six stamps it will issue this month as its contribution to the Europa 2019 theme National Birds. The two Europa values (65p Linnet and 80p Goldfinch) can be scanned with a smartphone to hear the bird's call.
Each year, countries across Europe are invited to submit stamps for that year's theme. This year is National Birds, giving nations the chance to highlight birds that are particularly identified with their country.
Guernsey birdwatcher Rod Ferbrache provided the photography for the stamps, which are:

- The (Atlantic) Puffin with its large colourful parrot-like beak is a member of the auk family: 48p
- The (Common) Linnet, gets its name from the latin for flax, Linum, one of its favourite food sources: 65p, Europa
- The (Eurasian) Bullfinch is named for its heavy looking bull-like neck and is one of the most striking types of finch with the male sporting a bright crimson chest and a jet-black cap: 66p
- The (European) Goldfinch is sometimes referred to as the seven-coloured finch and flocks of them are known as a “charm”: 80p, Europa
- The (Common) Starling is a bird which can never be described as shy and retiring: 90p
- The (Common) Kingfisher was once trapped by hat makers for its colourful plumage: 98p
