A new United States stamp, to be issued on 2 April 2019, celebrates the life and work of Marvin Gaye (1939-1984).

The United States Postal Service has issued details of the stamp, designed by art director Derrey Noyes with artist Kadir Nelson. The Forever stamp features a colour portrait of Gaye inspired by archive photos.

The stamp sheet is designed to resemble a 45rpm album sleeve, in tribute to Washington-born Gaye, whose 1971 album What's Going On is considered one of the greatest recordings in American pop music. One side of the stamp sheet includes the stamps, information about Marvin Gaye and the image of a sliver of a record.

The other side has a portrait of Gaye and the Music Icons series logo.
