Royal Mail surprised British stamp collectors and rock fans by issuing a special stamp sheet featuring ten of the Pink Floyd stamps, first seen on the recent Classic Album Covers stamp set.

The unique souvenir stamp product was issued unexpectedly on 6 March, to coincide with lead guitarist David Gilmour’s 64th birthday, and features tenPink Floyd's managers with the stamp sheet stamps showing the cover of band’s 1994 album The Division Bell. The sheet, which is intended to look like a 7” record sleeve, also include the lyrics to the track ‘High Hopes’, the last song on what has proven to be the band’s final album, while the Pink Floyd logo, used during the latter years of the band’s long career, is also shown.

Julietta Edgar, Head of Special Stamps at Royal Mail, said: ‘It’s the first time Royal Mail has worked with a major rock band to produce a product of this kind, and reflects the band’s enormous global impact over more than four decades. Pink Floyd has a huge fan base around the world and this souvenir stamp sheet is for them and music fans in general.’
