Royal Mail’s new miniature sheet marks a landmark royal wedding anniversary with a selection of memorable archive photos showing the Queen and Prince Philip together.
The wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip on 20 November 1947 gave the nation a good excuse to celebrate in the grim years which followed the end of World War II. Although the hostilities had been over for more than a year, Britain was still in the grip of rationing (and would be for years to come) and returning servicemen were trying to fit back into everyday life in a country which had been forever changed by war.
To mark the landmark anniversary of this royal wedding, Royal Mail has issued a special miniature sheet which features six stamps with black & white photographs of the Queen and Prince Philip. Two of the photos show the couple in the run up to the wedding, two feature the ceremony at Westminster Abbey and a further two show the pair on their honeymoon.
