Royal Mail Stamp Guide 2018, Game of Thrones, 23 January 2018

Golden-globe nominated TV show Game of Thrones is the subject of Royal Mail’s latest stamps, which feature characters from the hugely popular HBO® drama series.

Game of Thrones is based on the fictional continent of Westeros, and the series, now in its seventh season, incorporates many plot lines and a conflict among several noble families, each of which claims the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms.

The stamps depict photographic representations of central characters from across all seven seasons of the series. Each of the stamps is centred upon an individual character and features a montage of Game of Thrones images. The issue comprises ten first class stamps, plus a miniature sheet which carries a further five first class stamps.

Game of Thrones was first screened on 17 April 2011 and is based on the fantasy book series A Song of Ice and Fire by New Jersey author George Raymond Martin. From the start, the production of Game of Thrones has involved a very significant British contribution. Principal filming of the series is at Titanic Studios in Belfast, the Linen Hill Film Studio in Banbridge and on location elsewhere in Northern Ireland, with additional filming in Scotland and European locations including Malta, Croatia, Iceland, Morocco and Spain.

Additionally, the cast is predominantly British and Irish, and British expertise is also strongly featured in many areas of the production, including costume design and prosthetic special effects.
