What is now known as ‘Europe’s premier stamp show’ will take place at the Business Design Centre in London’s Islington between 18 and 21 February, and offers stamp collectors a wide range of philatelic treats, including stock from more than 100 stamp and postal history dealers, and a special display of material from members of the Great Britain Philatelic Society (GBPS), who celebrate the organisation’s sixtieth anniversary this year.

February’s event will coincide with the release of Royal Mail’s ‘Inventive Britons’ stamp set, and this theme will be reflected on the limited edition Smilers sheet. Available from the Information Stand, the sheet of ten 1st Class stamps will feature labels showing inventions including the chocolate bar, the lawn-mower, the vacuum flask and the jet engine. A free postcard, given to all visitors to the show, continues the theme, showing a diagram of a nineteenth-century steam engine from the days of Robert Stephenson.

Collectors will be making tracks to Royal Mail’s popular stand on the Thursday of the event, when the new stamps are issued, while fans of Post & Go stamps will also be grabbing some souvenirs from both Royal Mail and Jersey Post, who will be offering an exclusive new design.

The GBPS sixtieth anniversary will be celebrated with a wealth of members’ material on display, and the official Stampex show guide will include an additional eighty pages incorporating a visual guide to every GBPS display.

The guide is free with the March issue of Stamp & Coin Mart magazine, allowing you to plan your visit before the show.
