On the 29 January, MaltaPost issued a set of three stamps paying tribute to Malta’s healthcare workers. Find out more about the stamp set in this special guide.
The issue is in appreciation of the sterling work performed during the COVID-19 pandemic by the carers, nurses, doctors and all hospital staff who serve on the frontline to ensure the safety and quality of care of their patients.
Issued in sheets of ten, the stamps each carry a face value of €0.30 and the issue consists of 500,000 stamps.
Each stamp measures 44mm x 31mm, has a comb perforation of 14.0 x 13.9 and bears the Maltese Cross watermark. The sheets measure 118mm x 185mm and were produced by Printex Ltd in the offset process.
About the artists
Two of the stamps reproduce paintings by Madeleine Gera and the other features a painting by Andrew Micallef.
Andrew Micallef was born in Malta and studied graphic design at the Malta School of Arts and Crafts. Since 1986 he put up twelve solo exhibitions and formed part of various prestigious publications illustrating flora and fauna of the Maltese Islands. His favourite subjects include land and seascapes, birds and Maltese historic architecture. Andrew Micallef also drew several paintings that were later issued as Malta postage stamps.
Madeleine Gera was born in Malta and has lived in Germany and Italy. Gera is a figurative painter and her focus of interest is the portrait and the figure within an urban space. She studied art in Florence, Italy and between 2006 and 2015 she ran her own studio in Valletta. Madeleine Gera has participated in several collective exhibitions in various European cities and has had numerous solo exhibitions in Malta.
