Beijing will become the first city to host both the summer and winter editions of the Olympic Games this year, and Monaco’s Office des Timbres are one of many countries issuing a stamp to celebrate the event.

Taking place from 4 to 20 February, the Winter Olympics will use several of the venues that were used for the 2008 Games, including the famous Beijing National Stadium, also known as the Bird’s Nest due to its unusual design, which is set to host the opening and closing ceremonies.

It might be more well known for its sunny weather, but the Principality of Monaco will be taking part in the Games, with Monagasque athletes preparing to compete in alpine skiing and bobsleigh; it is these two disciplines that are featured on the stamp’s design, illustrated by Thierry Mordant.
