Post Europ has announced the results of the 2013 Europa stamp competition at the Post Europ plenary assembly in Brussels. More than 11,000 voters took part in a poll to decide which European postal authority had produced the best stamp on the Europa 2013 theme 'the postman's van'. 57 entries were received from postal authorities across the continent, each presenting the theme through the eyes of their own country.

For the second time in three years, Turkey's entry was chosen as the 'most beautiful Europa stamp' by online voters, followed by runners-up Magyar Posta from Hungary, and second runners-up Poczta Polska from Poland and Swisspost from Switzerland, who tied with the same number of votes.

Turkey's winning stamps featured collages of items related to Turkey's postal system, including a postman, postal vehicles and post boxes - from bygone days through to modern times.

Markku Penttinen, Chairman of the PostEurop Stamps and Philately working group from Itella Posti said: 'This special theme chosen for 2013 in conjunction with PostEurop’s twentieth anniversary, was indeed a challenge for most designers as they attempt to not look all the same and still bring their individual characteristics to the design.'

The theme for Europa 2014 will be 'musical instruments' with postal authorities invited to design their own stamps featuring the music and musical instruments of their own region.
