The growing popularity of Postcrossing, the sending and receiving of postcards to and from people around the world, is being celebrated on a new pair of stamps from Guernsey Post.

The colourful stamps, set to be issued on 27 July, depict wildlife and island life and fall in line with Guernsey’s new postal tariff for postcards sent to Europe (64p) and the rest of the world (70p). Guernsey also issued a Postcrossing stamp in 2014.

Launched in 2005, the Postcrossing website enables anyone to receive postcards from all over the world. The website invites members to send a postcard and, once your card has been sent, you qualify to receive a card from another randomly selected member. ‘If you send a postcard, you will receive at least one back from someone, somewhere in the world, the website explains. ‘Post crossers enjoy the element of surprise of receiving postcards from different places in the world... 35,687,093 postcards have been received because of this project.’
