Guernsey Post has announced it is to release a first day cover, miniature sheet and presentation pack to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the death of Sir Winston Churchill.

Guernsey, as one of the Channel Islands, has a unique perspective on World War Two, as these islands were the only part of Britain to be occupied by German forces in World War Two. In a special radio broadcast on 8 May 1945, VE Day, the islanders were informed by prime minister Winston Churchill: 'Hostilities will end officially at one minute after midnight tonight... and our dear Channel Islands are also to be freed today.'

The Life of Winston Churchill issue, which was designed by Two Degrees North comprises a first day cover featuring Churchill as a young man and as an older statesman, with three different £1 stamps showing Churchill addressing a crowd, as a young man at Chartwell, and Churchill on VE Day; the miniature sheet has the three stamps on a sheet with a black and white photo of Churchill, overlaid with his signature; the set is completed with the presentation pack which holds the three stamps.
