Post Europ has announced the winner of its 2013 Jury Prize which honours the best stamp on the current year's Europa theme.

Eight philately experts were invited to join the jury and judge the 56 Europa stamp entries based on their expert opinion. After three rounds of deliberation and discussion, Finland Post's Europa entry was declared the winner. The stamps, issued on 6 May 2013 and designed by Susanna Rumpu and Ari Lakaniemi, show old and new Finnish postal delivery vehicles.

Philatelic expert Dr Guy Coutant, who chaired the Post Europ jury panel said of the judging: 'Three rounds were necessary, as the average quality of the presented stamps was very high. It was so competitive that in the second round, up to seven countries were selected to participate in the final round!'

The judges considered three aspects when judging the entries:

  • The originality of the design
  • The technical aspects
  • The appeal to both stamp users and stamp collectors

The award will be presented in Brussels Town Hall on 21 September during the ceremony of the Grands Prix for the Belgian and European Philatelic Art.
