Royal Mail have painted a post box gold in the wrong town, following the gold medal victory for Team GB cyclist Laura Trott.

Trott won gold in the Olympic team pursuit contest at the Velodrome on Saturday, prompting Royal Mail to issue a stamp showing the three cyclists and to paint a post box gold in each of the athletes' home towns.

However, Laura Trott's home town was incorrectly listed as Harlow rather than Cheshunt, leaving Royal Mail staff red-faced and the incorrect post box painted gold. Laura tweeted: 'So people i need you to tweet @PostOffice for me.. my postbox is going in harlow which isnt in my hometown Cheshunt is where it should be!!'

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: 'We tweeted her straight back to say we'll be delighted to do one in Cheshunt as well.'
