San Marino has issued a stamp with a release date of 30 August 2012, whose net proceeds will go towards rebuilding communities after the earthquakes in northern Italy in May 2012. The stamp, which has a print run of 150,000, features a plant growing beside the ruined Finale Emilia tower, which was badly damaged in the earthquake.

Two earthquakes struck northern Italy in May, the first north of the city of Bologna and the second nine days later, on 29 May. Seven people were killed and dozens of buildings badly damaged by the earthquakes and their aftershocks - which were so severe they could be felt in the neighbouring countries of Austria and Switzerland.
