Faroe Islands celebrate a local artist and landscapes in new stamps
Arnold Vegghamer, born in 1937, is a self-taught artist with an extraordinary ability to convey the Faroese landscape in colour, Influeced by modernist painters, Vegghamer simplifies and abstracts landscape motifs to create vividly coloured expressionist images with a niaive yet visionary sensibility that often return toone of his favoured themes: a village by the sea. the images on the new stamps show Vegghamer’s paintings Bygd and Skyming.
