San Marino has become the latest country to issue a stamp on the Europa 2016: 'Ecology in Europe: Think Green' theme.
This year marks the sixtieth anniversary of Europa stamp issues and as such, member countries have been asked to issue at least one of their Europa stamps to a common design. This year's chosen design was selected via a stamp design competition which was won by Doxia Sergidou of Cyprus Post. The design features a green and healthy landscape shown adjacent to a grey, polluted scene.
EUROPA THEMES
Each year, a different theme is chosen for member countries to interpret as they wish, often bringing in aspects of their own culture and history. The 2015 theme 'Old Toys' saw many nostalgic images used, including children playing in the street (Malta), a toy truck (Ireland) and dolls (Norway). Next year's theme is castles.
According to the Post Europa blog site, three countries will not be submitting Europa stamps this year: Great Britain, Greenland and Russia.
